Clothes/Layette

I dare you to convince me there is a difference between a bathrobe and a “wearable towel.” How many onesies/blankets should I expect will be thrown up on in a given day?

  1. No need for bathrobe at this age. If you get cute little bathrobes that look like ducks at your shower, take them back!!! Useless! Just wrap the kid up in a hooded towel. You should expect to go through 2-3 onesies in a day, 1-2 during the night!!! Same goes with the blankets that are wrapped around the kid. You may want to do those little mittens so kid doesn't scratch self.

  2. A LOT. Hooded towels are a must, the robe we used maybe twice. We went through a few onesies in a day, and we always have at least 4 pairs of pajamas in rotation. Also, Halo sleepsack is imperative. Liam was able to break out of the Swaddle Me by 4 weeks, but he loved the SleepSack until he was over a year old.

  3. We would go through several onsies a day with all the spit up. You will probably want to get some onsies that have the sleeves that fold over to cover their hands. Anya was a scratcher and those little nails are sharp and grow like weeds! The Halo sleepsacks are a great idea but my daughter hated them and the swaddle me. We have about 5 hooded towels and we still use them (she is 17 months).

  4. my babies dont spit up but they pee and poop through at least 1 onsie each day.so we go through TONS of onsies. Ellie loves to be bundled to sleep but she breaks out of them, so we use the swadddle me. or we use the fleece blanket bags. the gowns are nice at night for diaper changes or the zipper sleepers for a quick change.

i have some cure wearable towels that i think we will save to go to the beach or the pool. we wont use otherwise.

  5. Avoid the ones with all of the snaps up and down the legs. Hard in the dark. I always liked the pull on pants instead.

  6. Bathrobe is a complete waste. Someone gave me one, and I never used it.

You can use a hooded towel, but a regular bath towel works just as well. They grow out of the hooded towel way too fast, and they don't absorb as much water as the regular bath towels do.

Not all babies are spit up babies. Mine were random. Aiden did a lot more than Jenna, but he had acid reflux as an infant.

Have lots of cloth bibs and burp cloths, always at hand.

I didn't go through as many onesies as everyone else did...I guess I was lucky. If you can find pj's in zippers for a small baby, those are great. Snaps in a dark room with a sleep deprived parent are not a very good combination somtimes! You won't be laying a blanket over the baby for a long time, so I doubt you will go through that many. Sleep sacks are great too. Don't go out and buy too much, have one or two back ups available...and if you have to run a load of laundry, that's what you'll have to do. You then can guage if you need to purchase more or not.
Sleeper gowns - absolutely hated them.

You can use socks on his hands if he scratches, no need to buy special mittens. Just keep his nails short and you really shouldn't need to do either. (I didn't)

I had at least 4 or 5 pajamas for rotation.
Steal the nose sucker from the hospital - it's better than any others that you can buy. (most of the time they give them to you.)
